Welcome to Arch Counselling & Psychotherapy, a safe and compassionate space where you will always be heard with empathy and without judgment.
I'm Sophie, and that's my best friend, my dog Jarvis.
My practice is comfortable, informal and designed to be a cosy haven for you, when needed.
I offer a warm and open minded approach to psychotherapy, allowing you to work through difficulties or make positive changes.
Taking the first step is often the hardest part, but I'm glad you've found yourself here, and I hope you get in touch if you feel I could be the right therapist for you.

Our environment is important, and can really change how we feel. I created Arch to be an inviting, cosy and comfortable place that you can feel relaxed in. Arch is located in central Hexham, close to transport links and parking, in a quiet courtyard. This offers some privacy, whilst being convenient to reach. Another addition is my beloved dog Jarvis, who can be there as a source of comfort, or not, if you prefer.

Sophie was, to me, an ideal person to be my counsellor. She is a good listener, and I did need to talk a lot. Nothing she ever said was judgemental, which was something that worried me before I started. She has so many methods of bringing out things I’d withheld, often without realising it.
I went to her for one stated thing, but she could see so many connections to other things in my life, things that I’d never seen as important, and yet put together they were obvious. She didn’t ‘tell’ me what these things were; she asked me questions, the answer of which revealed to me the connections.
I am naturally optimistic and yet, at the end of our sessions, I left as a much more positive person. I could feel the tranquillity inside that I didn’t realise hadn’t been there before. I am forever thankful for her skills.
I went to see Sophie after two big losses in my life. I felt totally out of control and lost, I couldn’t see a clear path which to go, and I felt like I just had brain fog all of the time.
Sophie taught me how to take a step back and breathe, we talked about everything that was in my mind and what I was struggling with. Gradually I started to be able to control my breathing and take control again.
Sophie has some really good methods which aren’t hard to follow and do help immensely. I still use some of the methods to this day. My time with Sophie helped me so much to understand what I was going through and how to cope with a lot of it.
I am forever grateful, thank you Sophie.
